Impasto è una fibra naturale biodegradabile inventata dal designer danese Nikolaj Steenfatt, composta da chicchi di caffè, segatura e grassi animali miscelati con acqua e pigmenti colorati. Il composto ottenuto viene pressato, arrotolato e sagomato in lastre piane per poi essere lavorato in forme e dimensioni varie. Il risultato è un materiale versatile e facilmente lavorabile utilizzato per creare una gamma di sedie, sgabelli e lampade a sospensione unica nel suo genere. The project was based on sustainable materials research. This led to experiments with different natural fibres and binders, with the aim of creating a new material that is biodegradable, easy to work with and simple to understand. The development of the production process is driven by an idea of creating a process that is adaptable to the industry, but has a unique output as if it was handmade.
