Bonobo is a documentary project by Belgian photographer Arne Baert. Bonobo encloses a selection of images taken during a scientific field mission close to the Congo River, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Swampland and seasonally inundated forest patches alternate with drier savannahs. Remote villages are engaged in slash-and-burn agriculture, hunting and fishing. After dusk we hear strange, nocturnal sounds. The enigmatic animal the series refers to remained unsighted during the trip.
