Espacio Disponible is a photographic series by Murcia born Spanish photographer Mónica Ortega. She studied Contemporary Photography MA at University of Valencia and after graduating in 2011, she became fascinated by the landscape, in particular, by the new territories that emerge as a consequence of the environmental degradation and industrial decay.
Her work focuses mainly on the landmarks that remain in the margins of everyday life: abandoned industrial areas, vacant lots, decommissioned military structures and urban space that has fallen into disuse. Though she finds beauty in the constraints and contents of the traditional landscape, she does not attempt to entertain the audience but to question our perception of the unavoidable consequences of living in a post imperialist society.
